07 Jun 2014

1st KnightRiders continued its impressive run in the 2014 ACA Grade 1 league, and are on on top of the points table for a second week in row.

On sunny Saturday afternoon Inverurie Don Valley Won the toss and invited KnightRiders to bat first at Kellands Park in Inverurie.

KnightRiders open the innings with ease and the total sailed to 34 runs in 6 overs. But Inverurie clawed back up claiming two quick wickets and KnightRiders were 47 for 2 in 9 overs.Next at crease was the talented all-rounder Rowan pairing with the classy Opener Vijay steadied the innings by scoring runs at ease. The pair added 92 runs for third wicket partnership in 20 overs. Yet again, Vijay Amirthraj played another cultured innings before getting out for 71 runs (6 four's & 1 Six).Entry the big hitter Nishad Patherikadavil who fired a quick 65 runs which included 7 boundaries and two huge sixes. The paid added a record 107 runs for fourth wicket partnership. KnightRiders, who had piled up 250 for 4 declared in 42nd over. Inverurie found Rowan impossible to be removed, the classy Right-hander was not out 83 in almost two hours of batting.

Inverurie had little chance of reaching their winning target and thier openers T Norval and K Macleod played cautiously scoring 23 runs in 6 overs .T Norval was run out to great piece of fielding from Poongkannan & a fine piece of bowling from seamer's reduced Inverurie for 27 for 4 in 14 overs.A Stalker(26) and K Macleod (45) put on 72 for the fourth wicket, using up 30 overs in the process. While their run-rate meant they never threatened to reach their target, it effectively thwarted the KnightRiders’s aspirations of an outright victory. Late in the game a brilliant piece of fielding form Prashanth Mallireddy got K Macleod run-out and J Moore got out LBW in Poongkannan bowling. But it was all too late and the game ended in draw as Inverurie scored 104 - 6 in 48 overs.

As Inverurie were unable to achieve the par score needed KnightRiders tool full 30 points from the game and remain leaders of Grade 1 Table.

The top-ranked KnightRiders host bottom of table Banchory CC at Harlaw Academy on 16th June.
