27 Jul 2014

After a superb batting performance in the rain affected game the day before, spirits were high when 1st KnightRiders arrived at Mannofield Park. Skipper Mohan won the toss and elected to bat first. But the team was in for shock as the opener Mallireddy was out caught of the first ball he faced. Enter the Big Hitter Rashid, who along with Nishad studied the innings by scoring quick runs. Nishad was dismissed for 12(1x4) by pacer R.Chandu. Next the in-form "raising star" Rowan joined Rashid and added a superb 44 runs for the fourth wicket. Rashid was unlucky not to score a 50, as he was bowled out for 40 (36 balls 4x4). The batting fireworks continued as Siva 24 (17 balls, 4x4) & Selladurai 15(10 balls, 2x4) punished Manofield bowlers .Rowan finished the inning not out on 36 (26 balls, 2x4) and KnightRiders posted an impressive 148 for 5 in 20 overs.  R.Chandu took 2 for 28 in 4 overs.

Mannofield in their reply, got off to a steady start and added 19 runs for the first wicket in a quick session. But a beautiful Yorker from Rowan dismissed K.Finllay for 9 and he removed G.Olives for a golden “0” the very next ball and home side was down to 19 for 2. Next A superb piece of fielding by Sella resulted in a run out of S.Elliots for 7 and J.Van Oorchsot was out stumped for 4 in Mohans bowling and Mannofield were in deep trouble at 32 for 4 . R.Van Oorchsot & P.Sudhakar offered some resistance as they battled hard for 5 over's adding 18 runs for the 5th wicket. Another fine display of fielding and a direct hit by Selva removed P.Sudhakar for 14 runs. Despite these early strikes, KnightRiders were put to the test by A.russell 49 (4x4) & R.Van Oorchsot (4x4) who took the game on to the very last over.

The excitement and tension became evident going into the final over as Mannofield required 20 runs for victory and Skipper Mohan asked Nishad to bowl. In-spite of a wideball, missfielding , overthrow Nishad  kept his composure and leaked only 17 runs of 6 balls and Knightriders won the game by 3 runs. Rowan (4-0-22-2 ) & Mohan (4-0-19-1) were the star bowlers for KnightRiders and a special mention to Ayyapan for his brilliant fielding effort throughout the game.
